Traffic - ADAC: No major increase in traffic jams expected due to warning strikes
According to ADAC estimates, the warning strikes by the train drivers' union GDL will not lead to significantly more traffic jams on the highways in North Rhine-Westphalia this Friday. "We assume that many commuters are now able to work from home, at least for a few days, and are preparing for the strike again," said a spokesperson for ADAC Nordrhein on Thursday, referring to previous experience.
The freeways are currently very full anyway, as congestion figures for November have shown. "The risk of congestion is greatest between 7 and 9 a.m. and 3 and 6 p.m.," said the spokesperson. If you have to travel by car, you should drive outside the rush hours if possible and keep an eye on the weather conditions. He referred to the German Weather Service (DWD), which has warned of the risk of slippery conditions due to freezing rain, in some cases down to low altitudes, for Friday night.
According to the DWD forecast for NRW from Thursday morning, isolated thunderstorms due to moderate freezing rain are possible on Friday night. The expected focus of the freezing rain is the Bergisches Land, Sauerland and Eggegebirge regions. Severe disruption to road traffic is likely.
The German Train Drivers' Union(GDL) has called on its members to go on another warning strike at Deutsche Bahn. From Thursday evening, 10.00 p.m., until Friday evening, 10.00 p.m., passengers will once again have to prepare for train cancellations in nationwide rail traffic. All employees in the long-distance and regional transport sectors, among others, have been called to take part in the warning strike. The GDL has also called on employees of NordWestBahn GmbH and Transdev Rhein-Ruhr GmbH to go on warning strike in North Rhine-Westphalia for the same period.
