After storms in the north-east - no major damage

The German Weather Service had warned of lightning strikes, aquaplaning and landslides in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. According to the fire department, there was no major damage.

Thunderstorms and squalls - After storms in the north-east - no major damage

Severe thunderstorms with hail and heavy gusts have passed through parts of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In the Landkreis Vorpommern-Greifswald, the fire department was called out 60 times due to the storm - there were no major accidents, injuries, or fires, according to a spokesperson for the district to the dpa. The firefighters reportedly pumped out cellars that were flooded and cleared up overturned trees from the roads.

In the Landkreis Mecklenburgische Seenplatte, a roof structure was on fire, possibly due to a lightning strike into the house, according to a spokesperson for the district to the dpa. No one was injured in the fire. Additionally, around four trees fell and blocked roads for a time. In Greifswald, police reported that a man was rescued from a car filled with water - he remained unharmed.

Storm: strong gusts up to 90 kilometers per hour

The German Weather Service (DWD) had warned, among other things, for the districts of Mecklenburgische Seenplatte, Vorpommern-Greifswald, and Vorpommern-Rügen, of rainfall amounts up to 40 liters per square meter and wind speeds up to 90 kilometers per hour.

The storm had moved from the southern part of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern towards the northeast in the afternoon, according to a DWD spokesperson to the dpa. The meteorologists had warned of danger from lightning strikes, uprooted trees, high-voltage power lines, and flooded streets and cellars, as well as aquaplaning.

  1. Despite the severe weather conditions with storms, landslides, and heavy rainfall, thankfully, there were no major incidents or injuries reported in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
  2. The Fire department in the District of Vorpommern-Greifswald was particularly active, handling 60 calls due to the storm, but fortunately, no significant fires were reported.
  3. In Greifswald, the thunderstorm brought about a squall, causing a man to be trapped in a flooded car, but amazingly, he managed to escape unharmed after being successfully rescued by the authorities.
  4. The German Weather Service (DWD) had issued specific warnings for the districts of Mecklenburgische Seenplatte, Vorpommern-Greifswald, and Vorpommern-Rügen, advising of possible landslides, uprooted trees, and flooded streets and cellars due to the storm.
  5. As the storm moved northeastward through Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in the afternoon, the DWD had warned of a potential threat from lightning strikes, high-voltage power lines, and aquaplaning, urging residents to take necessary precautions.
  6. The aftermath of the storm saw the Fire department working diligently to combat smaller fires, such as the one in the Landkreis Mecklenburgische Seenplatte possibly caused by a lightning strike, and clear debris from streets and cellars left by the storm.
