- Dreesen views Bayern as being in a favorable position, with whispers circulating regarding Coman.
Despite the ongoing transfer buzz surrounding FC Bayern, CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen (56) believes the soccer titans are in a solid position heading into the final days of the transfer window. Following their 3:2 Bundesliga opener against VfL Wolfsburg, there's been heightened chatter about Munich's defense. There's also renewed media hype surrounding winger Kingsley Coman.
Regarding the center-back position, Dreesen echoed sports director Max Eberl's previous statements, ruling out any further activities. "Max has spoken at length on this matter. We currently have three seasoned center-backs in Minjae Kim, Dayot Upamecano, and Eric Dier. Added to that, we have Hiroki Ito, our injured yet experienced center-back," Dreesen shared. He remains confident in their solid defense, with Josip Stanisic, another injured defender, capable of stepping in.
The transfer window still has a few days left, but Dreesen wants to avoid fueling defense-related speculation. New rumors about Coman have emerged, with reports claiming he wants to depart Munich, according to "L'Equipe." Allegedly, he wasn't pleased about Bayern's openness to his exit.
"I won't comment on the current transfer window rumors," Dreesen stated, noting a potential buyer for Coman is yet to materialize. The national team player has openly expressed his interest in the Premier League in the past. Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal, where Neymar, Malcom, and Kalidou Koulibaly currently play, could be a potential destination.
Dreesen was cautiously positive about Munich's impressive league start in Wolfsburg. "We played well in the first half, and in similar scenarios, you'd typically extend your lead to 2:0 or 3:0," he said. However, Bayern lost their footing in the second half and even went behind. "Obviously, we'd have hoped for a stronger second half," Dreesen concluded.
Coman, a Munich stalwart since 2015, has helped the team win eight championships and three cups. His most notable moment was scoring the decisive goal in the 1:0 Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain in 2020. Coman's contract extends through 2027.
During the team's post-match analysis, the background music playing was "♪ I'm not gonna let you go ♪," a song that resonated with Coman's determined stance to stay with Bayern despite transfer rumors. Despite the ongoing speculation, Coman continued to contribute to Bayern's success, scoring important goals and helping the team maintain its strong position in the Bundesliga.
