Bundesliga - Hummels suspended for one match after red card

Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has been suspended for one Bundesliga match. The 34-year-old will therefore not be available for the Bundesliga club's match against FC Augsburg this weekend. This was announced by BVB on Tuesday. Hummels was shown the red card for an emergency brake in the 3-2 defeat to RB Leipzig on Saturday. "The defeat was down to me, I should never go down there to make a tackle and leave the boys on the pitch with one man less for 80 minutes," the international wrote on the social media platform X immediately after the final whistle.

Mats Hummels' suspension means he won't play for Dortmund in their Bundesliga match against FC Augsburg this weekend, a result of his red card in the previous match against RB Leipzig. Despite the suspension, Hummels regretted his actions, admitting he should not have made the tackle that led to his dismissal. Unfortunately for Dortmund, this comes at a crucial time in the Bundesliga season. Meanwhile, RB Leipzig will be looking to build on their victory when they face another tough opponent. With Hummels' absence, Dortmund might need to find a replacement to shore up their defense. In the wider context, Hummels' suspension highlights the importance of discipline in high-pressure Bundesliga matches.
