Jenna Ortega chose to deactivate her X account due to obscene content.
In the show "Wednesday," she doesn't tolerate any nonsense in her character's portrayal. Similarly, Jenna Ortega maintains an unyielding stance in her real life. Due to receiving explicit images and videos, she temporarily went offline on X.
In an interview with the "New York Times" "Interview" podcast, Ortega, now 21, shares her experiences. She has been bombarded with such content on X since her teen years. The first harmful message she opened at the tender age of 12 contained a man's private parts, as Ortega reveals.
As a teenager, advice was given for her to create an account on X to "enhance her image." Alongside the unwanted explicit photos, she also encountered her first "doctored content" of herself when she was 14 years old, Ortega shares. When inquired about if she meant "AI-generated, explicit images," the actress confirms with a straightforward "Yes, definitely."
The "preposterous images" from "Wednesday"
"I felt disgusted, terrible, and uncomfortable," Ortega explains about her experiences. These and other disturbing incidents prompted her to deactivate her X account "around two or three years ago." Post the release of the Netflix series "Wednesday," she received an influx of "preposterous images and photos."
Ortega will soon star in Tim Burton's latest movie "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," the sequel to his 1988 cult film "Beetlejuice." Winona Ryder, who held the lead role in the original film, will also be featured in the upcoming movie. A second season of "Wednesday" is currently being filmed.
In the interview, Ortega mentions that she temporarily left X, formerly known as Twitter, due to receiving inappropriate content. Despite advice to create an account on X as a teenager, she encountered explicit images and doctored content, including AI-generated ones, on the platform.
