- Lower Finow Ship Lifting Plant celebrates its anniversary
With a grand celebration, the 90th anniversary of the operation of the Niederfinow Ship Lift will be celebrated on Saturday. The world's oldest operational ship lift is to be honored with a full-day event, the organizers announced in advance. The facility helps ships on the Oder-Havel Waterway overcome a height difference of 36 meters.
In addition to various tours, musical and dance performances are planned. In the evening, visitors can admire the festively illuminated old ship lift during a special tour.
New Facility in Operation
For some time now, the ship lift, inaugurated in 1934, has been overshadowed by the new and larger facility next door. In October 2022, a new ship lift was put into operation after a long construction period.
