Over 200,000 avid supporters - McKenna of Scotland expresses his desire to bring pride to fans.
The Scottish football team is eagerly awaiting their upcoming match against Germany in the European Championship's opening game. While nerves might play a part, Scott McKenna, a defender, has assured everyone that they will be prepared and know what their coach has instructed.
It's all about the plan
Coach Steve Clarke's Scottish team faces Germany on Friday evening in Munich (8 PM/ZDF and MagentaTV). McKenna, a 27-year-old defender from Nottingham Forest who recently played as a loan for FC Copenhagen, stated, "The challenge is about how we handle the situation on Friday and execute the coach's game plan."
Two more opponents will be Switzerland and Hungary for both countries. Although Scotland has only appeared in the European Championship final tournament twice in the '90s, this is the fourth time they've participated - they've never reached the knockout stage.
The goal: advancing
McKenna - the goal is clear, "We aim to advance in this group. To achieve this, we need to win game after game." Full attention will be placed on Germany before focusing on their other games, which will be held in Cologne and Stuttgart.
Anticipating massive fan support
With an estimated 200,000 Scottish fans traveling to Germany in the coming weeks, they'll be expecting an exciting atmosphere. "I think the Tartan Army will be thrilled to have a strong presence," shared McKenna. "We want to present a performance that the fans can be proud of."
Post-pandemic celebration
The last European Championship was different thanks to COVID-19, but McKenna hopes this time the fans can have a real celebration. "It's a fantastic chance for them to experience a tournament abroad for the first time in a long time."
