Seriously ill, he won the title in May - Mourning for volleyball champion coach (†55)
Deep sadness in the volleyball world!
Aleksandersen took over as coach of the MTV Stuttgart volleyball team on December 14, 2020. After narrowly failing to win the German championship in the final series in 2021, he won the double with the team in 2022 and also reached the final of the second-highest European competition, the CEV Cup.
In 2023, the Norwegian was absent for several weeks due to a serious bout of cancer. However, he was back on the sidelines for the emotional championship in the same year: He won his third and final title away from home in the MBS Arena in Potsdam in May. At the end of the season, Aleksandersen ended his coaching career due to illness.
Managing Director Aurel Irion said in a club statement: "Tore Aleksandersen has done a great job for our club and for volleyball in Germany. With his inimitable manner and his unshakeable belief in his team, he has ensured the most successful time for Allianz MTV Stuttgart. We will cherish his memory with gratitude and will miss him terribly. We deeply mourn with his family and all his relatives and friends."
Sports Director Kim Oszvald-Renkema: "With Tore, a person has left us forever who was much more to all of us than the successful coach of Allianz MTV Stuttgart. Despite and during his illness, he gave each and every one of us an incredible amount of energy, inspiration and joy."
He continued: "The entire sport of volleyball has lost an outstanding coach and person in Tore Aleksandersen. Our sadness could not be greater."
