Due to ongoing construction, the A1 highway will temporarily reduce lanes between Hamburg-Billstedt and -Moorfleet, heading towards Bremen, for a period of three weeks. Instead of the usual three lanes, only two will be available. Moreover, for certain nights, traffic will be restricted to a single lane. Autobahn GmbH Nord has announced this change. Starting from Monday at 10:00, the construction site will be established between the Moorfleet Tunnel and the Norderelb Bridge, possibly resulting in traffic delays towards Bremen from Tuesday morning onwards.

Completely closed from Wednesday to Saturday, the Moorfleet interchange in the Bremen direction will shut down its on-ramp, remaining closed until the construction concludes on September 23. Motorists utilizing the A25 from Geesthacht and Bergedorf should anticipate delays at the Hamburg-Südost junction. The A1 lane heading towards Bremen will be limited to a single lane of traffic. The entire construction area's speed limit will be set at 60 km/h.

Periodically, traffic will be reduced multiple kilometers north of the Hamburg-Ost intersection. On the A1, between Stapelfeld and Barsbüttel, the lane markings will be updated until Friday, narrowing the motorway to a single lane in both directions heading towards Bremen and Lübeck during peak hours. The work will take place within a mobile construction site, between 9:00 and 16:00. "Delays are inevitable during work hours," Autobahn GmbH noted.

The heavily trafficked motorway section in the southeastern part of Hamburg is one of Germany's busiest, with an average of 136,000 vehicles traversing it daily, around 21% of which are trucks. The A1 highway serves as a connector for traffic from the Baltic Sea region and Scandinavia, passing through Hamburg over the Elbe bridges. This extensively used construction section was last comprehensively renovated in 2008, according to Autobahn GmbH.

Given the ongoing construction on the A1 highway, motorists travelling towards Bremen should be aware that the Moorfleet interchange's on-ramp will be completely closed from Wednesday to Saturday. During this time, motorists using the A25 from Geesthacht and Bergedorf may experience delays at the Hamburg-Südost junction, as the A1 lane heading towards Bremen will be limited to a single lane of traffic.
