Iraq - Refugee Council calls for deportation ban for Yazidis
Lower Saxony's Refugee Council is calling for a nationwide ban on the deportation of Yazidis. A stop must be put in place, according to a statement published on Monday. Although the situation in Iraq is still very unsafe, there is an increase in deportations of Yazidis.
Before the start of the conference of interior ministers, which runs from Wednesday to Friday, the Refugee Council, together with Pro Asyl, called on the federal states and the Federal Ministry of the Interior to grant Yazidis a residence permit.
Following the IS massacres of members of the Yazidi religious community, the Bundestag recognized the crimes as genocide in January. More than 5,000 Yazidis were murdered by the Islamic State (IS) terrorist militia in Iraq in 2014.
