SG Flensburg reaches main round of the European League
SG Flensburg-Handewitt have qualified early for the main round of the EHF European League. On Tuesday evening, the handball Bundesliga club beat Norwegian club Elverum 38:35 (19:15) and, after four wins with two games still to play, are now certain of progressing in Group E. Head coach Nicolej Krickau's team's best scorer was Lukas Lindhard Jörgensen with 12 goals.
However, the North Germans struggled at the beginning. After leading 8:6 at one stage, Flensburg conceded three goals in a row, but quickly recovered from this setback and improved significantly up to the break.
After Jörgensen scored two goals in succession midway through the second half to make it 30:23, the game seemed to be decided. However, the Norwegians did not give up and remained within striking distance. Blaz Blagotinsek was also shown the red card in the 51st minute after his third time penalty. In the end, however, Flensburg retained the upper hand.
SG Flensburg-Handewitt will continue their journey in the EHF European League's main round, having secured their spot with impressive performances. Their victory over Elverum in the qualifying stage was another testament to their strong handball skills in the EHF European League.
