Tennis star dominates new world No. 2 player.

Iga Świątek claims her 20th consecutive win at the French Open, asserting her dominance in the tournament. In the semi-finals, she easily takes down Coco Gauff, leaving her with no chance. Soon after, Italian Jasmine Paolini follows suit, advancing to the final for the first time at a Grand Slam event.

Polish tennis player Iga Świątek extends her winning streak at the French Open, reaching her third consecutive final in a Grand Slam tournament on clay. The 23-year-old triumphs over Coco Gauff from the United States in the semi-finals with a score of 6-2, 6-4. "It was intense, very close in the second set. I'm glad I stuck to my tactics, didn't overthink, and got it done," said Świątek.

Świątek is set to celebrate her fourth win at Roland Garros since 2020. She faces tournament surprise Jasmine Paolini from Italy in the final this Saturday (3 pm/Eurosport). The 28-year-old surprised everyone by defeating the 17-year-old Russian Mirra Andreeva in the second semi-final with a score of 6-3, 6-1. "I was a bit nervous at first, but I got more relaxed as the match went on," said Paolini joyfully.

Paolini's best performance at a Grand Slam tournament so far was reaching the round of 16 at the Australian Open 2024. Now she has the chance to be the second Italian to win in Paris after Francesca Schiavone in 2010. "I'm maybe a little older than others, but the most important thing in sports is to have dreams," Paolini stated before her debut in the final.

Gauff, who will be the world number two in the WTA rankings from Monday, still has one chance in the women's doubles. She and the Czech Katerina Siniakova face their compatriots Caroline Dolehide and Desirae Krawczyk in the semi-finals.

Gauff teared up during the match. When the score was 2-1 and 0-15, Paolini's call upset her so much that she had to use her tennis bracelet to wipe her wet eyes. "She's just a person and she's only 20 years old. I felt really bad for her, she was really desperate," said former German national coach Barbara Rittner on Eurosport.

The audience also reacted with some confusion. "You're crying because you're lying," Gauff told the umpire, who interpreted the time call differently than Gauff. Enraged, Gauff then won the break for a 3-1 lead - but Świątek responded with a cold demeanor and took four games in a row. After 1 hour and 37 minutes, she claimed victory with her fourth match point. It was her 11th win against Gauff, against no other player has Świątek won more matches on tour.

Jasmine Paolini quickly shed her nervousness.
