Emma Roberts - US star defends herself against "Nepo-Baby" criticism

## Star Kids under Scrutiny

For many months, the so-called "privileged kids" of famous actors, musicians, or models have been under criticism in social media. These so-called "Nepo Babies" are accused of building their careers not on their talent but solely on their famous names or influential family backgrounds. The term stems from the English word "nepotism" ("patronage").

Emma Roberts Addresses Nepo Babies Criticism

Among newcomers like Kendall Jenner (28), Lily-Rose Depp (25), Dakota Johnson (34), and the Smith siblings Jaden (25) and Willow Smith (23), US actress Emma Roberts (33) is a regular target of such accusations. The niece of "Pretty Woman" star Julia Roberts (56) and daughter of actor Eric Roberts (68) addressed these allegations in a conversation with the podcast "Table for Two."

In the interview, the young acting talent stated: "People love to say that you have an advantage because you have family in the industry. But the other side of the coin is that you have to prove yourself more." Furthermore, it could be observed that young women are disproportionately accused of having better starting conditions due to their famous names. "I don't really see that being leveled against the sons of famous actors," Roberts asserted.

"Why doesn't anyone call George Clooney a Nepo Baby?"

As an example, Roberts took a jab at one of Hollywood's biggest superstars. "I always joke, 'Why doesn't anyone call George Clooney a Nepo Baby?' Rosemary Clooney was an icon." In truth, George Clooney's (63) aunt Rosemary (1928-2002) was a renowned American actress and singer in the 1950s. Regardless of gender, Roberts concluded, no one should be accused of "pursuing their dream."

  1. Despite facing criticism as a 'Nepo Baby', Lily-Rose Depp, like her co-stars Kendall Jenner and Dakota Johnson, has shown that she possesses significant acting talent.
  2. Willow Smith, at only 23, has already proven herself as a multi-talented artist, challenging the stereotype often associated with 'Nepo Babies'.
  3. Julia Roberts, who is an aunt to Emma Roberts, has been a successful actress in her own right, making it difficult to argue that nepotism plays a significant role in her niece's career.
  4. George Clooney's nephew, actor Tate Donovan, has also managed to carve out a successful acting career, demonstrating that the concept of 'Nepo Babies' may be oversimplified.
  5. Critics often overlook the fact that many successful actors, such as Kendall Jenner and Dakota Johnson, started their careers as 'Babies', bringing unique perspectives and energy to the industry.
