Striker Dawid Kownacki heads back to Fortuna Düsseldorf, their Bundesliga 2 team, following a single year-long stint at Werder Bremen. Both clubs have concluded a loan agreement with a purchase option after a single season.

As per Düsseldorf's current and previous Bremen sports director, Klaus Allofs, "Dawid has demonstrated under Daniel Thioune his potential to be a crucial figure in our attack and provide a significant impact in the 2. Bundesliga."

Following a prosperous 2022/23 season with Fortuna, Kownacki transferred to Bremen in the summer, but struggled to make a mark. His statistics at Werder: 22 Bundesliga appearances without scoring a goal.

Bremen's professional football director, Peter Niemeyer, commented, "Dawid's tenure at Werder hasn't gone as expected for him or us. It's crucial for him to return to playing and regain his top form."

In the interim, Werder was rumored to be interested in Croatian Ante Crnac as Kownacki's replacement. However, the 20-year-old from Polish champions Rakow Czestochowa is now speculated to join English Championship side Norwich City, along with former Bremen player Josh Sargent.

Dawid Kownacki's next step in his career could potentially involve a return to Bremen, should they decide to exercise the purchase option in their loan agreement, given the insights provided by Bremen's former sports director, Daniel Thioune, during Kownacki's time at Fortuna Düsseldorf.

Despite struggling to make an impact at Werder Bremen, Kownacki had previously shown promising potential under Daniel Thioune at Fortuna Düsseldorf, located in the city of Bremen.
